Zipp vs. X-Treme Wheels. A new frontier in lightweight carbon wheels???

Well yesterday I met Mitchel Vervaart. He's the new rep for X-Treme products and other smaller companies like Lightweight the wheel manufacturer that makes the really exotic wheels that people like Ullrich use.

He also sells other carbon products from Boutique companies that make 130gram handlebars etc. That other pros use.

Check em out in this Post's Shootout.

ZIPP 303 vs.
X-Treme Matrix Elite
Zipp 303 Tubular - 44.5mm Rim - 477g front, 644g rearTotal = 1121g $2850rrp
X-Treme Matrix Elite Tubular -
45mm Rim - Front: 435g Rear:615g Total = 1050g $2350

Nano Elite Tubular, Front: 390g Rear: 560g Total = 950g $2295RRPVs
Zipp 202 Tubular, Front: 466g Rear: 566g rear Total = 1032g $2850RRPI reckon the Zipp would have AeroDynamic advantages. (Unless ur doing less than 30kmh and drafting up the 1/20) but overall the X-Treme wheels seem quite light, quite cheap in comparison and also seem to be pretty good quality.

What u guys reckon?

For over 15 years at its small factory on Australia's Gold Coast, X-treme has been hand building the lightest, strongest and fastest carbon fibre wheels available on the market. Our focus on research and development has kept us at the leading edge of the carbon fibre bicycle wheel industry. Using the latest in 3D modelling, wind tunnel research, stress and fatigue testing and the all important real life tests has seen our performance technology set the benchmark for strength, weight and aerodynamics. Our innovations include:

  • pioneering the use of co-moulded rim technology way back in the early nineties, years before our competitors;
  • achieving enhanced ride dampening characteristics through the application of our impact absorbing core technology (i-ACT)Patent Pending; and
  • transferring unparalleled power to the rims through our spoke specific rim technology (SSRT)

The good news is X-treme is now drawing on their years of experience and knowledge to develop a whole new range of carbon fibre products to complement our legendary wheelsets. So check out our new range of forks, handlebars, seat posts and other accessories. And there's lots more on the way, including a new web site. So don't forget to bookmark us and come back again soon.

It's no wonder more and more professional athletes are going to X-tremes!

you have to wonder about their vertical compliance?

Lol, that's so funny, great off the cuff comment. Bit like, I wonder what the rake comparision is like? Seriously though, does it go into the hubs and bearings of the two wheel types? Does Zipp use ceramic bearings? I think the aerodynamics of Zipp would be slighly better, but hey I think riding them both to compare would be the go. After all you need to be happy with how they feel both climbing and decending.
